Whale watching is a must when visiting the Azores. The islands offer one of the best habitats in the world for marine mammals with more than 20 identified species like a kind of natural aquarium in the middle of the Atlantic! Sperm and pilot whales, beaked and false killer whales are most commonly seen, as well as bottlenose, common, spotted and striped dolphins.
Boat skippers are keen to see the sea mammals and will point them out to you, identify the species and give you time to marvel at the spectacle and grab some fantastic photos too (if you're quick!).
