Horse riding is available on the larger islands, but equestrian centres are hard to sustain on the smaller ones. The best facility in the Azores Quinta da Terça in the village of Livramento on São Miguel. The fine stables house sixteen pure and cross-bred Lusitano horses for all levels of riders.

The estate, dating from the 17th century, has a jumping course, indoor arena, and ambitious plans for expansion. On Faial, there is also new school at Capelo.
