Also known as the green island due to its many grass covered plains and tree filled mountains, São Miguel is arguably the most unique of the islands on the Azores and as it is the largest, offers the greatest number of activities. Perfect for visitors that love long walks and idyllic scenery, this island really is something very special.
There are volcanic lakes and craters dotted around the island, as well as traditional villages that are definitely worth stopping for. It also produces a number of foods, such as coffee, pineapples and tea, giving a somewhat tropical aura this already enchanting part of the island.
